    Understanding Product Feeds

What is a product data feed?

A product data feed is a file containing product information such as titles, descriptions, prices, and images URLs. It helps e-commerce businesses manage and update their product catalog across multiple online platforms, improving visibility and driving sales.

How to create a product data feed?

Here are the steps to create a data feed:

    1. Choose to create your data feed from scratch or an existing template

    2. Choose the format (CSV/TXT/XML) (when creating a data feed from scratch)

    3. Complete the basic settings

    4. Adjust your template

    5. Apply the collection Selection and Mapping

    6. Filter products

    7. Generate the data feed

      • download the hosted file

      • get the data feed URL

      • export the data feed

    Configuring a data feed profile

In order to list your products on marketplaces, you must create and submit a product data feed. A data feed is a file in TXT, CSV or XML format that contains detailed information about your products.

    Basic settings

    Status

When the data feed has a disabled status, it won't generate.

    Name

The name of the data feed profile corresponds to its unique name for internal use only.

    File name

The file name corresponds to the name of the data feed file visible in the URL.

To add the generation date to the file name, insert a date format between double braces: feed_{{Ymd}} gives feed_20261024, feed_{{Y-m-d}} gives feed_2026-10-24. The letters are those of PHP date formats: Y for the year, m for the month, d for the day, H for the hour and i for the minutes. The date is the date of the generation, in your store's time zone, and it names the file uploaded by FTP or SFTP and the file of the generation email, link and attachment; the URL of the feed always serves the latest file.

    Language

The language you choose will be the one used for product attributes.

    From a ready-to-use template

Existing templates are pre-configured formats that simplify creating and exporting product data feeds for various shopping platforms, marketplaces, and comparison sites.

These templates are designed to meet the specific requirements and data structures of each platform, ensuring that your product information is accurately and consistently presented.

To create feed from an existing template:

    1. Go to Product Feeds

    2. Click on Create a new data feed

    3. Choose a template in the different section (except from New template from scratch)

You can also store a data feed template you've created in the feeds library, allowing you to reuse it without having to recreate it from scratch.

    From scratch

There are three different options: CSV, TXT, and XML files, each serving as formats for structuring and storing data, facilitating seamless integration and manipulation within various systems and platforms.

Creating a new template from scratch allows you to build your own entirely customized feed.

When creating a data feed, you need to think about using this data feed to choose your file type or your pre-configured template.

    XML

An XML file is a markup language used to structure and store data in a hierarchical format, unlike CSV and TXT files which store data in plain text with delimited values.

To create an XML data feed from scratch

    1. Go to Product Feeds

    2. Click Create a new data feed

    3. In the drop-down list, select XML template (xml) in the New template from scratch section

    4. Click Ok to confirm your choice

    5. Fill in the settings fields (for more information go to Basic settings)

    6. In Template & Preview fill the fields header pattern, product pattern (with the help of the Placeholders Library), and footer pattern

To learn the basics of structuring an XML data feed go read our Beginner's Guide for XML

    CSV/TXT

CSV and TXT files are plain text formats used to store data with delimited values, unlike XML files which structure data hierarchically using markup language.

To create an XML data feed from scratch:

    1. Go to Product Feeds

    2. Click Create a new data feed

    3. Select in the drop-down list CSV template (CSV) or TXT template (txt) in the New template from scratch section

    4. Click Ok to confirm your choice

    5. Fill in the settings fields (for more information go to Basic settings)

    6. In Template & Preview fill the fields extra header pattern, Column Mapping (with the help of the Placeholders Library), and footer pattern

To learn the basics of structuring a CSV/TXT data feed go read our Beginner's Guide for XML

    Manage product feeds templates

Depending on the targeted Shopping engine or marketplace, the data feed template may vary.

    • XML data feeds are based on an XML structure with nodes and sub-nodes, such as

    <products>
      <product>
         <title>My product 1</title>
         <price>99.99$</price>
      </product>
      <product>
         <title>My product 2</title>
         <price>49.99$</price>
      </product>
    </products>
    • CSV/TXT data feeds are files where one line corresponds to one item, and each columns are separated by a special characters such as semi-colon, tabulation

    Title; Price
    My product 1;99.99$
    My product 2;49.99$

    When building the template all product values are replaced by dynamic placeholders such as: {{title}} or {{price}}

The template for the above examples with their dynamic placeholder would look like this:

    • XML

    <products>
      <product>
         <title>{{title}} </title>
         <price>{{price suffix="$"}}</price>
      </product>
    </products>
    • CSV/TXT

    Title; Price
    {{title}} {{price suffix="$"}}

Product Feeds includes an internal library with all possible placeholders available and many examples.

Go to Product Feeds › Edit Data Feed › Template & Preview then click on Placeholders library

    File metafields

A metafield can hold an image, a file (a PDF for instance) or a video. Shopify only stores the file identifier in it; Product Feeds also fetches its URL, so that you can export it like a product image.

In the placeholders library, a file metafield offers several values, following the namespace.key.value pattern:

    • {{ namespace.key.url }} — the URL of the image or file. For a video, the URL of its first source.

    • {{ namespace.key.id }} — the Shopify identifier of the file.

    • {{ namespace.key.urls }} and {{ namespace.key.ids }} — for a file list metafield, all the URLs and all the identifiers; .url and .id then only give the first file.

The placeholder without a suffix, {{ namespace.key }}, outputs nothing for a file metafield: always specify the value you want.

These values also work as filters: in the Filters tab, the condition namespace.key.url "is not empty" selects the products that have a file in this metafield.

For instance, for a custom.image_remarketing metafield holding an image:

    <image_link>{{ custom.image_remarketing.url }}</image_link>

    Filtering products

Filters are simple criteria or conditions that help you select specific products to include or exclude from your data feed.

This filter allows you to specify whether the rule should be applied if any or all of the specified conditions evaluate to true or false. For instance, selecting any condition applies the rule as soon as one condition is true or false, whereas selecting all conditions requires every condition to be true or false.

To remove a filter, click the red bin.

    By collection

To select the type of collection filter:

Go to Collections › collection filter type, then choose to exclude the selected collections or to include them.

    Include

Include selected collections will include all of the products of the selected collection  in the data feed.

    Exclude

Exclude selected collections will exclude all of the products of the selected collection  of the data feed.

    By product values

    Filtering on a multi-valued property

Some properties hold several values rather than one: tags, collections, and the URLs, names, IDs and alternative texts of images. Operators behave slightly differently on those.

    • Is empty and is not empty check whether the property holds at least one value. "Tags is empty" keeps the products that carry no tag at all.

    • Contains and doesn't contain look at each value separately. "Tags contains Winter" keeps the products where one of the tags contains that word, and never matches the end of one tag against the start of the next.

    • Is equal to, is higher than, is lower than and their variants apply to the number of values. "Images urls is higher than 2" keeps the products with more than two images; "is equal to 1" those with exactly one.

    • Is one of and is not one of compare the whole value against each entry of the list you provide.

Filters tab: Tags is empty, Collections is one of BARBIE and Best Sellers, Images urls is higher than 2

    4. Enable FTP Upload toggle switch

    5. Choose to enable or not FTPS

If you did not choose to enable FTPS:

Choose to enable or not Passive Mode

Choose to enable or not SSL

    6. Enter the Host Name: Provide the hostname or IP address of the FTP server where you want to upload the data feed

    7. Enter the FTP port: Specify the port number for the FTP connection. The default FTP port is 21, but it may be different depending on your server configuration

    8. Enter Username: Enter the username required to access the FTP server

    9. Enter password: Provide the password associated with the username for the FTP server

    10. Enter path to directory: Specify the directory path on the FTP server where you want to upload the data feed files

If the file name contains a date, such as feed_{{Ymd}}, each generation uploads a new dated file. The previous files stay on the server.

    Hosted file

To copy the url of a feed, this feed must be created.

    1. Go to Product Feeds

    2. In the Data Feed Profiles, click on the clipboard icon in the url column of the feed you want to copy the url

The url is now copied in your clipboard

    Email export

Product Feeds can send an email each time a data feed is generated. To set it up:

    1. Go to Product Feeds

    2. Create or edit a data feed profile

    3. Go to the Export tab, Email export section

    4. Enable Send by Email

    5. Enter the sender address in Email sender, and the recipient addresses, separated by commas, in Recipients

    6. Write the Subject and the Email body

    7. Click Send a test email to check the configuration

The subject and the body accept these placeholders, replaced at each generation:

    PlaceholderReplaced by
{{name}}The name of the data feed
{{link}}The link to download the generated file
{{item_count}}The number of items exported in the generated file

The test email is sent as written: its placeholders are only replaced at generation.

To send the email through your own mail server, enable Use my SMTP server and enter its host, port, username and password. The Attach generated file (< 5MB) option then appears, to send the file itself with the email.

On the feeds that matter, keep this email enabled: a missing email tells you a feed was not generated, and {{item_count}} shows at a glance a feed that suddenly comes out empty or incomplete.

    Update data fetching

The data fetch update is an automated process that periodically retrieves updated product information from your Shopify store and syncs it with the app.

This ensures that your product listings on these platforms are accurate, up-to-date, and consistent with the data in your Shopify store.

Bulk requests allow you to retrieve multiple records in a single API request. This reduces the number of API calls required to retrieve all the desired data. The API will process the requests in parallel and return the results in a single response.

Webhooks allow you to receive real-time updates when data changes on the server. When data changes, the API will send an HTTP POST request to your callback URL with the updated data. You can then process the data and update your application accordingly.

    To update a data fetch:

    1. Go to Product Feeds › Product Feeds Schedule

    2. Next to Schedule times, click the box and select an hour in the drop-down list. This hour will be when your data fetch will be updated

    3. Click Save

In the Data fetching section, you can see when the last update took place, how long it took, and when the next one will occur.

You can also start a fetch with the Fetch now button whenever none is in progress. It starts within a minute of your request and usually takes a few minutes, depending on the size of your catalog. Meanwhile, the section shows when it started and how long the previous one took.

    Creating and managing data feeds

How do I create my first feed?

From the Product Feeds Configuration page, you can create a new feed by selecting a predefined template or starting from scratch.

    Simply :

    • Set the basic parameters (name, language)
    • customize the template using properties
    • choose the collections and apply any filters before configuring the export
Can I create my own feed templates?

Yes, when creating a feed, you can either select a predefined template that matches a platform’s requirements or start from a blank template.

The second option lets you build a fully custom feed by adding your own properties, tailored to your product data or the needs of a specific platform.

How can I filter products included in a feed?

When creating a feed, you can use the Filters section to set precise conditions to include or exclude products.

These filters help you target which products to export based on criteria like status (active or draft), price, variants, stock availability, tags, collections, and more.

Can I modify a feed after its creation?

Yes, you can modify an existing feed at any time by accessing its settings and making the necessary changes.

What is the difference between CSV, TXT, and XML formats?

CSV and TXT formats are plain text files where data is organized in rows and columns, separated by delimiters (commas, semicolons, or tabs).

Each row represents a product, and each column contains information such as title, price, or image URL. These formats are simple, lightweight, and widely supported by shopping platforms.

XML, on the other hand, is a structured format based on hierarchical tags. Each product is defined within tags like <title>, <price>, or <description>.

This format is richer and more flexible, especially for meeting the specific requirements of platforms like Google Shopping, which require standardized tags such as <g:title> or <g:price>.

How to structure an XML feed?

A XML file is composed of tags that organize data in a hierarchical structure. Each product is enclosed in a tag, containing sub-tags for its attributes:

The properties ({{title}}, {{price}}, etc.) will automatically be replaced with the actual data from your Shopify catalog.

How to structure a CSV or TXT feed?

A CSV or TXT feed is structured in rows and columns, with each row representing a product and each column representing a piece of information (title, price, image, etc.), separated by commas or semicolons. Use properties like {{title}}, {{price}}, {{image.url}} which will automatically be filled with data from your Shopify store.

Adjust the column order according to the specific requirements of the target platform (e.g., Amazon, Pinterest, etc.).

How can I customize my feeds?

Use the properties library to select the data to include in your feed (title, price, image, etc.). You can also apply custom formulas to modify the format or content of certain fields according to your needs.

You can then apply Liquid filters to these properties to modify their display or format, for example:

    • {{ title | upcase }} → converts the title to uppercase
    • {{ description | strip_html }} → removes HTML tags
    • {{ price | money_without_currency }} → formats the price without the currency symbol
How does the feed preview work?

The preview allows you to view the exact content of the feed before exporting: structure, data, and any potential errors (empty properties, incorrect formats, etc.). You can refresh it after each modification.

The preview always relies on the latest data retrieval.

Check out our use case to learn more about feeds preview and its benefits.

Are my feeds always up to date?

Yes, if you have set up automatic updates. Depending on your plan, you can schedule one or more synchronizations per day. Each update will generate your feeds based on the most recent data from your store.

What product data can I export in my feed?

You can export all available product data in Shopify, including:

    • Basic information: title, description, price, SKU
    • Media: image URLs, videos
    • Variants: Sizes, colors, materials, variant prices
    • Availability: Available stock, product status
    • Metadata: Tags, collections, categories.
    • Marketplace-specific data: GTIN identifiers, EAN codes, shipping parameters.
How can I get the URL of an image stored in a metafield?

In Shopify, an image or file metafield only holds the file identifier (gid://shopify/MediaImage/…). Product Feeds also fetches its URL: use the compound placeholder {{ namespace.key.url }} in your template, for instance {{ custom.image_remarketing.url }}. For a file list, {{ namespace.key.urls }} outputs all the URLs. These values are offered in the placeholders library after the next product data fetch. See File metafields in the user guide.

    Configuration and export settings

Can I choose the language of my feed?

Yes, you can choose the language for your feed during its creation, in the Settings tab. This language will be applied to all product attributes in the exported file.

If you sell internationally, you can create multiple feeds in different languages to meet platform requirements and improve the visibility of your products.

Can I configure the FTP export of a feed?

Yes, you can send your feed to an FTP server. Simply enable the FTP option in the export settings, then provide the server details (hostname, port, username, password).

Don't forget to test the connection to ensure everything is working correctly.

Can I add the date to the file name?

Yes. In the feed, add a date format between double braces to the File name: feed_{{Ymd}} gives feed_20261024. The date is the date of the generation, in your store's time zone, and it names the file uploaded by FTP or SFTP, as well as the link and attachment of the generation email. See File name.

Can I retrieve the URL of a hosted feed?

Yes, each feed generates a unique URL. To retrieve it, simply click the clipboard icon next to the URL in the feed list. This URL allows you to access the file, which will update automatically according to the settings you’ve defined.

    Filters and product segmentation

How can I filter products to include or exclude in a feed?

In the Filters section, you can apply criteria to include or exclude products, such as status (active, draft, archived), price, variants (size, color), availability (in stock or out of stock), as well as tags, collections, brands, and more.
These filters help you refine your exports according to platform requirements.

Can I apply multiple filters to the same feed?

Yes, you can add multiple filters to refine your product selection. You can configure your filters by setting rules such as:

    • "If all of these conditions are true": All conditions must be met to include or exclude a product.
    • "If any of these conditions are true": At least one condition must be met to include or exclude a product.

This allows you to tailor your feed based on specific criteria, like excluding promotional products or only selecting those in stock.

    What filters are available?

You can filter your products based on several criteria to refine your selection, including:

    • Product details: Name, description, SKU, barcode (GTIN), brand
    • Price: Regular price, sale price
    • Stock: Availability (in stock or out of stock)
    • Status: Active, draft, archived
    • Collections and tags: Inclusion or exclusion based on your needs
    • Variants: Filter by options like size, color, material, etc.

    Preview and data validation

How can I preview a feed before its generation?

You can preview your feed to ensure it is correct before exporting it. In the Templates and preview tab, click on data feed preview

For CSV/TXT files, you can view the feed as text or in spreadsheet format.

Why are my data not up to date in the preview?

The preview displays the data from the last feed update. If changes were made afterward, they won't be visible. To view the updated data, simply regenerate the feed.

    Generating data feeds

Can I manually generate a feed?

Yes, you can manually generate a feed by going to the feed list and clicking Generate in the Actions column. The feed status will then change to In Progress and eventually to Success once the generation is complete.

Can I schedule the automatic generation of feeds?

Yes, you can schedule the automatic generation of your feeds through the Product Feeds Schedule page. This ensures your feeds stay up to date without manual intervention.

The number of schedules you can set depends on your plan:

    • Freemium : no schedule
    • 2 feeds 1K products: 1 schedule per day
    • 5 feeds 10K products: 3 schedules per day
    • 10 feeds 10K products: 6 schedules per day
    • 20 feeds 500K products: 12 schedules per day
    • Premium : 24 schedules per day
Is my product data always up to date?

Yes, if you have scheduled updates, your feeds will be generated automatically at the selected time with the latest data. Otherwise, if you don't schedule updates, your feeds will use the data from the last generation.

To ensure your information stays up to date, it is recommended to schedule regular updates.

How long does it take to generate a feed?

Manual generation is quick and takes about 2 minutes.

Automatic generation may take a bit longer, as it retrieves the entire product catalog with each update.

Can I track the progress of a feed generation?

Yes, you can monitor the status of a feed directly from the Product Feeds Configuration page. The displayed status will indicate:

    • In progress: The feed is being generated.
    • Success: The generation has been completed successfully.
    • Error: An error occurred during generation.
How can I be alerted if a feed is not generated or comes out incomplete?

Enable the email sent at each generation of the feed: in the feed, Export tab, Email export section, turn on Send by Email and enter the recipients. Add the {{item_count}} placeholder to the subject or the body: the email then gives the number of items exported.

A missing email tells you the feed was not generated; an unusual count, zero or far below the usual one, shows a feed that came out incomplete. See Email export.

How many products can I export in a feed?

The maximum number of exportable products depends on your plan:

    • Freemium : 250 products
    • 2 feeds 1K products: 1 000 products
    • 5 feeds 10K products: 10 000 products
    • 10 feeds 100K products: 100 000 products
    • 20 feeds 500K products: 500 000 products
    • Premium : produits illimités

If your catalog exceeds your plan's limit, consider optimizing your filters or upgrading to a higher plan.

    Updating product data

    What is product data updating?

Data updates ensure that your Shopify store's information is synchronized with Product Feeds. This guarantees that your data feeds reflect the latest changes in your catalog, such as prices, stock levels, new products, and more.

Why is it important to regularly retrieve product data?

Frequent updates ensure that your products display accurate and consistent information across all platforms where they are advertised (Google Shopping, Meta Ads, Amazon, etc.).
For this, it is important to schedule an automatic update:

    • Go to Product Feeds Schedule
    • Set the desired time
    • Save your settings to automate synchronization

This helps avoid pricing or stock errors on marketplaces, promoting unavailable products, and inconsistencies between your store and your advertisements.

How to manually trigger an update?

From the Product Feeds Schedule page, click on Fetch now to trigger an update of your data. It starts within a minute and usually takes a few minutes, depending on the size of your catalog. You can track the status of the update in real-time on the same page: success, error, or in progress, with its start time and the duration of the previous one. The button is unavailable while a fetch is in progress.

    Changelog

    6.0.33

    New feature

    • Date in the file name — Add a date format between double braces to the file name of a feed, such as feed_{{Ymd}}: the file uploaded by FTP or SFTP, and the link and attachment of the generation email, are named with the generation date, in your store's time zone (feed_20261024). See File name.

    6.0.32

    Bug fix

    • Preview of order and customer feeds on large stores — On stores with a very large order history, the preview of an order feed could time out, and the generation took far longer than needed: the query still looked up variants and parent products, which only exist in the catalog. Order and customer feeds now read only their own data.

    6.0.31

    Bug fix

    • Order data fetching on large stores — On stores with a very large order history, fetching order data could stop for good while processing the products of the orders, and order feeds could not be created. Orders are now processed one at a time, whatever the size of the history.

    6.0.30

    Improvement

    • Number of items in the generation email — The email sent at each generation of a feed can now give the number of items exported, with the new {{item_count}} placeholder: a feed that suddenly comes out empty or incomplete shows at a glance. Placeholders now also work in the email subject, and the default body of new feeds gives the count. See Email export.

    Bug fix

    • Download link in the generation email — The {{link}} placeholder showed the file name without a clickable link in email clients. It is now a regular link to download the file.

    6.0.29

    Bug fix

    • Opening a feed on stores with many placeholders — On stores with many product options or metafields, opening a feed could freeze the browser tab: the placeholder library was fully built up front, even with its groups collapsed. Each group is now built when it is first opened, and each example when it comes into view.

    6.0.28

    Bug fix

    • Product data authorization on older installations — On stores that installed the app before it required access to locations, “Products & Variants” stayed under “Authorization required” even once authorized, and the Authorize button could not change it. Available quantities per location and the backorder setting were missing from feeds. Shopify now grants this access to these stores, with no action on their side: they come back at the next product data fetch.

    6.0.24

    Bug fix

    • Data fetching — The Data fetching section no longer promises a manual update “at any time” while its button is unavailable during a fetch. It now says when a fetch can be started, when the current one started and how long the previous one took. See Update data fetching.

    6.0.23

    Bug fix

    • Incomplete Product Feeds exports — On a store that also uses Bridget, Product Feeds exports only contained, after a product data fetch, the products edited since the previous fetch. The catalog of these stores is now fetched in full every time: exports get all their products back at the next fetch.

    6.0.22

    Bug fix

    • Products archived or edited without touching their variants — A product that is archived, set back to draft, renamed or retagged is updated in feeds again at the next fetch. Until now the change was only picked up once one of the product's variants changed too: an archived product could keep being exported as active. Catalogs are fully rebuilt at the next product data fetch.

    6.0.20

    Improvement

    • File metafields identifier — The Shopify identifier of an image, file or video stored in a metafield now reads as namespace.key.id (.ids for a list), next to .url. The placeholder without a suffix no longer outputs the identifier: update the templates that relied on it. These values can also be used in the Filters tab. See File metafields.

    6.0.19

    Bug fix

    • Saving DataFeedBuilder feeds — A DataFeedBuilder feed whose template uses placeholders with parameters (nth, output…) can be saved again. Since 6.0.11, a check meant for Bridget templates rejected it with "the pattern “nth=” is not recognized".
    • Metafield filters (DataFeedBuilder) — An advanced filter on a metafield selects the expected products again. Since 6.0.0, the value was exported in the feed but the filter could not see it. Existing catalogs are fixed at the next product data fetch.

    6.0.18

    New feature

    • File metafields URL — The URL of images, files and videos stored in a metafield is available in feeds, through the compound placeholder namespace.key.url (.urls for a file list). The Shopify identifier remains available through .default. See File metafields.

    Bug fix

    • Catalog of DataFeedBuilder shops installed before 6.0.0 — These shops import their catalog again. A permission that was not granted (inventory per location, metaobjects, customers) no longer prevents fetching the data covered by the permissions already granted: the related features are simply skipped.

    6.0.14

    Bug fix

    • Suspended fetch — A data fetch that cannot succeed — authorizations not granted, shop unavailable on Shopify — is no longer retried endlessly: it becomes "suspended", with its reason, on the entity card and in the schedule. Fix the cause, then fetch the data again manually.
    • Metafields on DataFeedBuilder — Metafields are fetched again and available in the placeholder library and in generated feeds, for shops that enabled them.

    6.0.13

    Bug fix

    • Catalog awaiting rebuild — A feed whose catalog must be rebuilt before generation is now put on hold with an explicit message instead of failing; the rebuild starts automatically and the feed is generated at its next slot. Catalogs awaiting a rebuild are picked up progressively, without any action required.
    • Schedules and plan — Without an active trial or a subscribed plan, generation schedules are no longer honoured, just like catalog import schedules; manual generation remains available.

    6.0.11

    Bug fix

    • Invalid feed templates — A feed template that cannot be interpreted is refused when saving, with the reason, instead of putting the feed in error at its first generation. Unusable templates appear greyed out in the template selector. See From a ready-to-use template.
    • Facebook, Instagram and Google Shopping library templates — Meta templates emit the SKU as product identifier again, not the price; variant options (size, colour) and the category derived from collections are no longer empty. Feeds created from these templates are fixed the same way.
    • Generation errors — A feed's error message quotes the offending template line, no longer a variable from a previous generation.

    6.0.2

    New feature

    • Order export — Orders can now feed a data feed, alongside the catalog and customers. Shopify having approved extended access to orders, the full history is available rather than recent orders only.

    6.0.1

    Bug fix

    • Data access permissions — The permission request goes through again. It used to fail entirely, preventing even catalog access from being granted.
    • Stores with large catalogs — The property library and data feed generation no longer stop for lack of memory on stores holding many collections and segments.

    6.0.0

    Bug fix

    • Filters on multi-valued properties — Tags, collections and image properties are now compared value by value. "Tags is empty" finally keeps the products with no tag at all, and the comparison operators applied to images act on their count. See Filtering on a multi-valued property.
    • Filter values containing an apostrophe — A value such as L'Atelier is accepted as is. Until now it prevented the data feed from being generated.
